What kind of house is right for you.
What kind of house is right for you.
Once you have decided to buy in Kenya, the whole process can get very overwhelming. It can be hard to really know what you want with so many options in the market place. You must first decide how much you can afford and set not to break this rule for any reason. Talk to your lender to get in a pre-approved mortgage. That way you have a rough figure to work with. This also gives your Kenyan agent an idea of what range of homes to show you. Next is to decide whether it is an investment or the home you intend to live in yourself. Consider is it kids friendly, or suitable for an elderly parent or grandparent who you might want to come and live with you. Also take a look at the proximity of schools, hospitals, and public transportation. Another handy thing to have close by your home is a supermarket.
What kind of condition you need the house to be in. Do you like do-it-yourself. If so, then you might be more inclined to buy a house that has all the features that you want even if it needs some work. Most Kenyans want not to bother with repairs or renovations, so buy something in better shape.
Lastly, consider what style of house you want to buy. Some buyers are very flexible on this point, where some others are very sticky on what style of home they want to live in. If a mature garden is important to you then stick it out until you find one you like. Likewise, location, location, location is all that matters to other buyers. When the Kenyan property meets your criteria and your have not broken your price rule then you are ready to buy. Do a final check against the most important qualities of the Kenyan Real Estate that are important to you and enjoy living in your own space, however big or small it is yours.
